NEI and recipe lookup

NEI and its add-ons took 149 changes this release without a single announcement between them: bookmarks, recipe handlers, search and the item panel.

Favourites, and recipes shared in chat

An item can be marked a favourite from the permutations list even when no recipe backs it, an item with a single recipe gets a favourite generated for it, and broken recipes fall out of the favourites list. A recipe, or a whole bookmark group with its settings, pastes into chat as a link, the way a single item already could.

Reading a recipe page

A recipe slot says more about itself. Badges mark an ingredient NC when the process does not consume it and NC(P) when it is not consumed but still counts towards parallels, an output that has one reads its chance as a percentage, and an Accepts label lists what else the slot will take. Holding shift over a bookmarked chain lists the Required Crafts still ahead of you. A handler can let its page overflow sideways and be scrolled, and paging through recipes by scroll is its own option.

Search: aliases and filter help

A mod can register alias names for its items, so a search matches a name the item does not literally carry. The recipe filter's syntax is written out in a tooltip instead of being folklore. The Untranslator's subset is hidden when the Untranslator is off, and the optional subset label reads from a lang key, which is what a resource pack needs to recolour or rename it.

Bookmarks, history and the item panel

A bookmark group can be moved from one namespace to another. The item history panel can be saved between sessions, and kept per world if you prefer. Items hidden through the subset menu stay hidden across a reload, and the magnet button shows a pressed texture while it is on.

Patterns straight from NEI

Not Enough Energistics is the button that turns an NEI recipe into an ME pattern. Fluids scroll inside a pattern slot now, aspects fill themselves in, and the Aspect Recipe Index is supported alongside TCNEI. A config keeps NEI's non-consumable ingredients when a recipe goes into a pattern, with zero-size inputs raised to one rather than dropped. Alt and left click orders the craft and subscribes you to the notice when it finishes, and a BetterQuesting quest's recipe can be pushed into a pattern like any other.

Custom Diagram: new pages

A worldgen loot diagram says what generates in a chest, reading the standard loot registry and Twilight Forest's and Roguelike Dungeons' own tables on top of it. The circuit line covers the new boards and the pico, quantum and planck circuits. The material parts page gained sheetmetal, bolted and rebolted casings, and GT++ materials. The Ender Storage tank and chest overviews work on a server.

Overlays in the world

The chunk grid draws above y=256 and below y=0, and it knows what a Cubic Chunks cube is. It can also be held to the chunk you are standing in rather than drawn across the ones around you. The mob spawn overlay offsets for a snow layer lying on a block.

Handlers and server control

A server decides whether its players may autocraft from NEI. A Repair Handler shows how an item is repaired. A recipe page has a View all categories tab that puts every handler for the item in one place, and the Give Infinite Item action is back in the item panel.

Other changes

NEI and its add-ons picked up a run of compatibility updates for GT New Horizons changes: the new NAND Chip Array location, removed recipe maps, and AE2's new stack types. UI polish includes adjusted bookmark panel width, transparency borders on recipe backgrounds, and localization improvements.

Cutter recipes folded together in NEI

The cutting machine's NEI listing went down from 4414 recipes to 1567. Recipes that differ only in the type of cutting fluid are now combined into a single entry, in which the fluid cycles through the options; hovering over a cutting fluid displays information about the time and energy savings that can be achieved by using it.

The recipes that machine actually runs did not change.

Other changes

Performance

A round of optimization work across NEI's GUI handling cuts CPU time and allocations while any inventory screen is open. World loading, enum caching, and item update systems all received improvements to reduce CPU and RAM usage. The recipe dumper tool is now much faster when generating reference data.

Fixes

Fixed crashes during recipe searches, autocrafting loops, and various bookmark edge cases with permutations and multipliers. Tooltips, keybindings, and item translation now work correctly. Spawner placement logic and GL rendering state were corrected to prevent issues in complex scenarios.

Fluids are NEI items of their own

NEI has its own fluid display item, so any fluid can stand in a recipe, a bookmark or a search the way an item does. In the item panel the fluids fold into one collapsible group. A recipe can draw a tank's fill level, and two options add a fluid's temperature and its state, gas or liquid, to the tooltip.

The bookmark tree

A bookmark chain opens as a tree of the recipes it depends on. Press T over the chain group, or Shift+T over a favourite in a recipe window, which bookmarks it as a tree first. Each node names the handler that crafts its item, and its tooltip gives the recipe and how many runs the chain needs; hold shift to list the ingredients with that multiplier applied. A stats panel sums up the chain and can count what your inventory already holds. The tree can be sent to chat or saved as a screenshot.
