Multiblock structure rework

A long-running push across GregTech and its addons: more than fifty multiblocks were redesigned, many of them from community design submissions. Every multiblock now names the hatches and casings it is missing instead of just refusing to form.

A machine already standing in your world keeps running. Its old controller still forms the old structure and runs at the same stats. Its tooltip marks it deprecated and points you to NEI for the new controller and the conversion recipe. The "will be removed in next major update" it warns about means 2.10, not this release. For most machines, when you want the new structure you break the old controller, swap it in a crafting table for the new one, and build the new structure.

The structure rework contest

These are the winners of the multiblock structure contest, in which the community designed how each machine should look. The tooltip of each of these controllers names its designer, separately from the machine's author. The controllers you already have keep working, flagged deprecated, until 2.10.0 removes them.

Multiblock Structure Error Diagnostics

When a multiblock fails its structure check, the controller GUI now tells you exactly what went wrong, which hatches or buses are missing, the coordinates of the first incorrect block it finds, and which blocks were expected there instead.

Multiblock Structure Error Diagnostics

A small clickable button appears next to block errors with coordinates. Clicking it closes the GUI, outlines the problem block in the world in red for 10 seconds and turns you to face it, so you can spot it immediately.

Exothermic Hearth and Endothermic Fridge

The Mega Blast Furnace and Mega Vacuum Freezer are replaced by the Exothermic Hearth and Endothermic Fridge at ZPM tier. Both grow stronger the longer they run - the Hearth gains parallels, the Fridge gains speed - pyrotheum or cryotheum makes either ramp up faster, and both run recipes of any tier if you give them the energy.

A tier 2 Fridge swaps the Frost Proof Machine Casings on the bottom three layers for Infinity Cooled Casing and unlocks Subspace Cooling: 20 L/s of Molten Infinity, Spacetime or Eternity buys one, two or three perfect overclocks respectively, where the Mega Vacuum Freezer burned 2,500 to 7,500 L/s for the same.

Exothermic Hearth and Endothermic Fridge

The Hearth gains 100K of heat for every voltage tier its combined energy input reaches past MV, so extra energy hatches add heat once they lift the total into the next tier.

Exothermic Hearth and Endothermic FridgeExothermic Hearth and Endothermic Fridge

Because both machines changed tier, their conversion recipes are assembler recipes rather than crafting-table ones.

Both carry scanner information and Waila integration - heat capacity for the Hearth, Subspace Cooling and the current speed modifier for the Fridge.

Industrial Cutting Factory

The Industrial Cutting Factory now requires a sawblade in its controller slot, which sets the machine's parallels, speed, EU usage and how high an energy hatch it will take. There are four, and none of them are consumed or worn down.

SawbladeParallels per voltage tierSpeedEU usageEnergy hatches
Tungsten Titanium Carbide2250%90%up to LuV
Mysterious Crystal3300%80%up to UV
Neutronium4350%70%up to UEV
Transcendent Metal6450%60%any tier, and one multi-amp hatch

The old machine ran at 4 parallels per voltage tier, 300% speed and 75% EU with no blade, so the two cheaper blades are a step down from it. It no longer has a slicing mode; those recipes moved into the cutting recipes.

The blade you fit is the one you see in the machine, and it spins while the machine runs, coasting to a stop at a right angle. A screwdriver turns the render off.

Integrated Ore Factory

The Integrated Ore Factory now processes as many ores at once as its total input power allows, one per 30 EU/t, with no 1024 cap. Each mode keeps a fixed recipe time without overclocks, and batch mode is gone.

It gained laser support, a mode button in its GUI and freer hatch placement, and it no longer needs a maintenance hatch. Its stone dust void now also takes netherrack, end stone, marble and red granite dust.

Large Thermal Refinery

The Large Thermal Refinery's new structure takes coils and solenoids: every coil tier adds +5% to the speed multiplier and takes another 5% off the power draw, and every solenoid tier adds 2 parallels. Drone Centre

The Drone Centre now has a camera you can fly. Pick a linked machine in its panel and the view moves to a drone hovering over it, which you fly with WASD, space and shift; aim the crosshair at a machine and the side panels read its status, its progress and what it is producing, and a right-click opens its GUI from where you sit. The drone is a real entity that anyone standing nearby can watch, and the view ends when you steer more than two chunks from the machine you came for.

The crosshair on a Large Chemical Reactor, its status over the machine and its recipe on the right

The panel itself is new too. It lists every multiblock in range of a downlink module, keeps them maintained, and switches them on and off; a production panel with a search bar records what they make, and a machine can sit in several named groups at once. The turn-on-all button clears powerfail events as it goes. A fourth drone tier reaches any downlink set to the same connection key, in any dimension, and a data stick copies a downlink's key.

One machine in five groups at once

The drone model was redrawn, bobs in the air, and wears one of four textures for the drone tier in the multi; maintenance has an animation of its own. The new structure takes hempcrete in any color you like.

Planetary Gas Siphon

The Planetary Gas Siphon, which pulls gases out of a planet's atmosphere, got a new and much larger structure, and higher coil tiers now speed it up by 10% each on top of a doubled base speed. It takes batch mode, and its NEI page names the EU/t each planet and depth costs. It also shows the actual pump rate of the Fluids in NEI now instead of some arbitrary number no one understood.

Industrial Arc Furnace

The Industrial Arc Furnace was rebuilt around consumable electrodes and three modes, and almost every arc furnace recipe now needs a programmed circuit: circuit 1 for the plain recipe, which no longer takes oxygen and runs 1.25x as long, circuit 11 for the gas and plasma variants. That goes for single-block arc furnaces and the legacy multiblock too, so automation that pipes oxygen without a circuit stops finding recipes until you add one.

Single-block arc furnaces now draw three times a recipe's listed EU/t. The generated recycling recipes list a third of what they used to, so those cost a single block the same as before. Most other arc furnace recipes kept their EU/t and now cost three times as much on a single block, so check that a bank of them you already run has the supply for it.

An Electrode Hatch holds the electrode, and the electrode is what the machine's stats now come from: fourteen of them, from Graphite up to the Universium nanite, each with its own speed, parallel limit, overclock factors, power draw and durability. Several carry an effect of their own. Netherite shuts the arc down in a single tick, YBCO buys its overclocks with extra wear, and Infinity doubles its parallel target with every run it completes. The three nanite electrodes use a dust of their own material to skip or repair wear. Below a quarter durability, every recipe has a 5% chance of a surge that drops the machine back into ignition.

Normal mode runs arc furnace recipes, ore mode smelts ores straight to molten metal, and EBF mode runs blast furnace recipes at 16 times the recipe's EU/t, with no heat requirement and none of the heat bonuses. Striking the arc takes six seconds, shutting it down another six, and the multi cannot skip tiers. Plasma arc furnace recipes were folded into the main map. Plasma Arc Furnace single blocks you already have were repointed at it and still work, but they can no longer be crafted.

The Industrial Centrifuge gathers momentum while it runs, climbing from 2x speed and 4 parallels per voltage tier to 3x and 8, and it spins back down whenever it stands idle.
