GTNH on mobile

You can play GTNH on an Android phone now - the whole pack. What got it there is a release-long push for performance and memory efficiency, the move to Java 25, the new renderer in Angelica 2.x, and the three changes below. Special thanks to the Amethyst Launcher devs for their hard work in adding compatibility with NH. Without them, it would still be nothing but a dream.

What you need:

  • Operating system: Android 10 or newer
  • Launcher: Amethyst
  • Modpack archive: the official download page for stable and beta releases, the dev build page for daily and experimental builds
  • Memory: 2.5 GB for multiplayer, 4 GB for singleplayer

Anything else - another launcher, another operating system, tweaked configs - is unsupported for now.

Setting it up is on the wiki: wiki.gtnewhorizons.com/wiki/Mobile. The announcement is on Discord.

Mobile bugs go to the tracker that wiki page links, and read its reporting instructions first: the standard format is what lets the dev team work through them quickly. For help there is the #mobile-help channel on the Discord.

Fixes

The fixes that got the pack starting on a phone all landed in the loading screen. It drew in a way Android does not allow, and could hang before the game had started; both are fixed.

Shipped in: BetterLoadingScreen #38, BetterLoadingScreen #43, BetterLoadingScreen #42, BetterLoadingScreen #44

Mobile graphics support

lwjgl3ify supports GL ES, the smaller version of OpenGL a phone has instead of the desktop one. It also fills in a handful of graphics calls that were declared but never implemented, which used to crash anything that reached for one.

Shipped in: lwjgl3ify #324, lwjgl3ify #349

Java 25

The pack now asks a launcher for Java 25, the same version Minecraft itself has moved to. lwjgl3ify is what carries that, and it also moved to a stable release of LWJGL, the library behind the mobile graphics support above.

Shipped in: lwjgl3ify #306, lwjgl3ify #303
